Lights, Camera, Action! The story of Singapore film Feb 11

This is a really fun tour, as you can tell from the photo above taken at the Shaw Studios on a tour in 2016!

Background: the post war years, especially the 1950s, saw Singapore's "golden age of cinema" and was dominated by 2 movie companies, Shaw & Cathay.

Although both these names survive in their movie theatres, only the Shaw studios still exist - albeit as a testament to the past - while the Cathay studios have long since disappeared.

In recent years the movie industry here has enjoyed something of a revival with many Singaporean directors such as Jack Neo, Eric Khoo, Royston Tan, Anthony Chen and Ken Kwek releasing films to not only national, but also international, acclaim.

Itinerary: our tour will visit the Shaw Studios, we'll then hop on a bus and visit some sites from movies made here (while watching clips from those movies),then onto the Cathay Gallery and we'll end at Objectifs arts centre in Waterloo St for a chat about the current film scene in Singapore.

At 2pm there is the option to return to Objectifs (after lunch nearby at the Design Cafe) to watch a made for TV film, "Time Tomorrow" there. It's historically significant for being the 1st full-length original English drama produced for local television.
